Microsemi FPGA to Acquire PMC-Sierra

     Analysts predicted a slow year for the semiconductor industry, but 2015 has already seen a number of tech acquisitions. First, Intel announced its plans to acquire Altera FPGA for a $16.7 billion deal. In May, Avago agreed to purchase Broadcom for $37 billion, and in March, NXP Semiconductors made an offer to purchase Freescale Semiconductors for $11.8 billion

Dialog semiconductor, a German chip maker, is buying Atmel, their U.S. rival, for about $4.6 billion. By acquiring Atmel, Dialog can diversify and expand its client base in the automotive and industrial markets where network connected chips are driving the Internet of Things.    Worldwide trends in the semiconductor market have seen merges adding up to $31 billion in 2014 says Reuters and it is continuing to increase this year. Recent acquisitions like Intel's merger with Altera have key benefits for chip makers.

Intel to buy Altera FPGA for $16 billion

 The initial talks didn't pan out, but a negotiation has been reached and Intel plans to buy Altera FPGA for a $16 billion deal.  At first glance, Intel's attempt to acquire Altera may not be the best news for Xilinx. Now, instead of competing against just Altera, Xilinx FPGA would be competing against Intel solutions which use Altera FPGA.
